Homework 29.1.18

t-l-51681-persuasive-letter-writing-powerpoint-xfurri

Write a persuasive letter on the topic of ‘recycling/littering/pollution’.  You will need to choose an aspect of this subject that you feel strongly about.  Think about who it is that you will need to write to:  is it your local MP?  The manager of a local supermarket?  The manager of the local council?  The Chairman of a soft drinks company?  The headmaster?  How will you explain your concerns and ideas?  How will you persuade them to change their practices?

Watch this clip from Blue Planet 2 for inspiration:

Support: Look at the PowerPoint (link above) for help in writing letters and persuasive arguments.

Hand in your first draft on Wednesday.  You can hand write or type your work.  Your weekend homework will be to edit and improve then produce a final version of your letter.

Today in History……….

……….we had the most brilliant workshop about Ancient Egypt.

We were given some artefacts from a tomb and had to use  the evidence and facts we were given about the objects, along with our powers of deduction, to work out whether the tomb belonged to a man, woman, girl or boy.

To whom do you think the tomb belonged?

Countdown Maths Problem – HW24.1.18

Following on from today’s starter, ‘Countdown’, we would like you to have a go at this tricky maths problem.

Your target number is 313 and the numbers you can use are: 75, 100, 7, 7, 6 and 2.

Remember:

  • Once a number has been used, it cannot be used again.
  • You do not have to use all of the numbers.
  • There are the four operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide) you can use.
  • You can ask adults for help but have a go first.
  • This problem is possible.

It took me 30 minutes to figure this tricky problem out. Can you beat my time? Are there any other solutions? Let us know if you have beaten my time and how many solutions you have found on our blog. Keep your method secret though, and bring it in to show us on Friday; don’t put it on the blog.

If you solve this problem, follow the link below and have a go at some other problems. You can set the difficulty level and create one for someone else to complete. Share your creations on the blog.
