Here are your spellings to revise for after half term. Remember to include the ones added to the blog on 11.10.13 too! Have a wonderful half term break.
Maths!
Here is a fantastic maths website to which the school subscribes. It has great games to help you to practice your skills, so log in and have fun!!
Start on level 3 or 4 to gauge the difficulty of the questions, and move up as you feel able.
A Very Special Visitor!
Lochinver had a very special visitor today – Albert Einstein!!!
We learnt a lot from him about space, light, time, gravity and more – all in just over 15 minutes! Most importantly, he reminded us how important it is to use our imagination in our learning and enquiry.

English Homework wc 21.10.13
Because it is a short week, we have decided to set the English homework a day early to allow the boys 2 days to complete it and hand it in, without it looming over the half term break.
They are required to start writing the description of a setting for a scary story, based on a picture they have been given. We discussed the essential ingredients for a really effective story opening in today’s English lesson, and set the Success Criteria for this task. The boys should spend 30 minutes on their writing, with the opportunity to finish their description in Thursday’s English lesson.
Ancient Egypt Project
Over half term, and the next 3 humanities’ homeworks, you are to complete a project related to your learning about Ancient Egypt. You can choose from:
- Tutankhamen
- Howard Carter
- Gods of Ancient Egypt (choose 3 or 4 gods to focus on).
Try to present your research in an imaginative way. For example, you could use the form of a newspaper report, a biography, a diary, a magazine article – just use your imagination! You need to include plenty of pictures, including ones drawn by yourself.
The timeframe for your project will be as follows. Your homework on 18th October, 8th November and 15th November will be to work on your project. We would also ask that you spend some time on it over the half term holiday. We would expect you to spend around 2 ½ hours overall (please don’t spend too much longer than this) on the writing and illustrating of your project, with research time on top of that.
Projects should be handed in on Monday 18th November.
Times Tables Practice
Keep that times tables knowledge up-to-date by visiting these websites with interactive practice games:

Have fun!
English Homework 16.10.13
Your English homework this week is to practice punctuating speech, following on from yesterday’s grammar lesson. You have each been given a worksheet with lots of exercises and activities on. Work for half an hour only, as it is important for me to see how much you can manage in that period of time. Remember to keep the worksheet somewhere safe, as you may need it again for homework later in the term.
Spelling Homework 11.10.13
Your spellings are a mixture of plurals. You all need to learn column one. If you are finding these easy, you need to learn column two. If you can do both of these column then you are ready to learn column three AS WELL.
Next Friday, we will be reading out the singular and you will be asked to write the plural.

History Homework 11.10.13 – Ancient Egypt
Following on from this week’s introduction to farming in Ancient Egypt, we will be making model ‘shadufs’ in next week’s lesson. Your homework is to research what a ‘shaduf’ was, what it was made of, what it was used for and who would have used it.
You will need to draw a picture of a ‘shaduf’ in your history books, labelling it with important information. You will then write a paragraph explaining what it was, what it was made of, what it was used for and who would have used it.
This link could be a good starting point:

Please hand in on Monday 14th October.
Please also bring in an empty cereal box.
Mrs Chronias’s Maths Group
I mentioned to the boys in today’s maths lesson that their homework next week would be to revise their times tables for a test on Wednesday October 16th. I have set the homework early to give them plenty of time for this!
